3 ways to create your Legacy Work

leave a comment »

A legacy work is defined as, a body of work that defines you, or, masterpieces of life works or what are you known for?

In his book Steven Covey, mentioned,

There are certain things that are fundamental to human fulfillment. The essence of these is captured in the phrase ” to live, to love, to learn, to leave a legacy.” The need to leave a legacy is our spiritual need to have a sense of meaning, purpose, personal congruence and contribution.

Be it in writing, monetarily, values we endowed upon to our children, whether it is in materialistic or spiritual forms, let it be of positive notes rather than a negative unfulfilling live stories.

To start your legacy works, they are several ways to design your thought process into the craft.

This is important because legacy work requires long term dedication, unquenchable thirst of passion into the process and a sustainable long term vision and methods.

You can start by listing down for example 100 things you must do before you die, or make that 1000.  Write it down and tell the world that you have done this and that. Like a bucket list or to-do list.

and it must be something that is outrageous and mind boggling. 100 movies, 100 books, 100 places, 100 days,  100 experience or 100 hours of something.

or

You can apply the principle of ikigai. Ikigai. Ikigai is a kind of concept of living.

Ikigai infuses many aspects of life.

  1. What you good at
  2. What you love
  3. What the world needs
  4. What can you be paid for

or summed up into the Venn diagram below.

ikigai

Ikigai is an ideology, age-old Japanese concept of living. (Sometimes when you switch on the NHK Japan Channel, you might keep on wondering why on earth does a certain craftsmen technique is valued when modern machinery methods are already available?) Maybe it has to do with something of this Ikigai proof of concept of living?

or

Create a system of living doing the legacy work.

List down

  1. Vision – how will the world be different when the legacy project is done?
  2. Beneficiaries- Who will benefit from the project?
  3. Methods- May be it will be in a form of writing, monetary, values, inspirations?
  4. Output- If it is in writing; maybe in the from of articles, document and publication achieved. If its is monetary values, may be in the form of money and dollars,
  5. Metric- how will success be measured?

May be this will help you achieve more of what you want, focus and channeling the energy to a singularity of achievement.
