Rupanya orang melayu sudah pergi haji tahun 1880-an
Aku lahir tahun 1983. Terkejut jugak tengok orang melayu (Melayu Nusantara sudah sampai ke Makkah sekitar tahun 1880). Ini Melayu Klasik!
Di bawah ada sedikit koleksi yang aku kutip (printscreen) dari Museum of Islamic Art Doha,Qatar. Memang nampak kemelayuan pada rupa paras muka. Tapi apa pun anda lihat sendiri rupa melayu pada hari itu. Memang susah nak pergi haji tahun itu agaknya. Sekarang pun susah jugak.
Sekitar tahun 1880, ada seorang Dutch orientalis ni bernama Snouck Hurgronje (1857–1936) dengan telah hebatnya mengambil gamaar the old pilgrimage pada sekitar tahun itu.
Dan yang specialnya satu lagi..
The frontispiece of this Qur’an contains illustrations of the four holy shrines: Mecca, Medina, Jerusalem and Damascus (read:Syria). These images appear in cartouches at the top and bottom of each page from the first suras. The colophon gives the name of the calligrapher as Mustafa al-Rashed, a pupil of Mir Husain al-Sadiq Qablawi, and states that the Qur’an was illuminated by Hasan al-Sadiqi in 1226 AH (1811-12 CE)
